Kevin S. Clougherty, a software executive and musician, died on February 23 in Chelmsford Massachusetts.
Born in Winthrop in 1950, Kevin grew up in Nahant, graduating from Lynn Classical HS in 1968. Music and technology were Kevin's passions in life. In his early teenage years, he formed the band Random Sample where he played guitar and sang vocals.
Kevin attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned his degree in aeronautical engineering. While at MIT, he found time to play bass for the band Freehold whose members consisted of fellow MIT student Tom Scholz, Barry Goudreau and Jim Masdea; these three went on to become the nucleus of the legendary band Boston.
After MIT, Kevin married Donna (Voke) and moved to Los Angeles where he pursued an aerospace career with Northrup Grumman. Dissatisfied with the work, he soon sought to change careers. Kevin returned to school to earn an MBA at Stanford University. He subsequently moved to New York, working in the A & R division of Columbia Records by day and playing in the band Bullseye by night. In 1979, Bullseye won a record contract with Columbia. Their album On Target featured a cover of Treat Me Right that was later popularized by Pat Benatar.
After the band's break-up, Kevin leveraged the emerging power of personal computers to perform solo in the Boston area under the name Turing Test, an homage to computer scientist Alan Turing. Kevin's main gig, however, was as a software executive with Boston-area high-tech firms, including Firefox and Response Networks.
Kevin had a great interest in animal rights and was a strong supporter of the Humane Society. He is survived by his twin sister Patricia and brother Dennis, by his sister-in-law Frances, by his nieces Tracy and Katherine, and by his uncle Donald and aunt Jacqueline.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Friday March 11, 2022 from 11am to 12 pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT28) STONEHAM followed by a Funeral Service Celebrating Kevin's Eternal Life at 12 pm. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
