Kevin A. Kelly

February 7, 1957 — January 15, 2012

Kevin A. Kelly of Reading passed away peacefully at home with his family on Sunday, January 15, 2012 after a long and courageous battle against colon cancer. He was 54 years of age.





Born in Natick, Kevin was the loving son of James F. Kelly of Centerville and the late June (Mohr) Kelly.





Kevin graduated from North Adams State College, Class of 1980 with a B.S. in Psychology. He received his Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Colgate University in 1983. Kevin received a second Masters Degree in Social Work from Boston University in 1988. He then went on to earn his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University in 2002.





Kevin began his career with the Department of Children and Families (formerly the Department of Social Services) as a Social Worker in the Malden office. From there, he became a Supervisor in the Lynn office, and later an Area Program Manager in Haverhill. Most recently, Kevin served as the North East Regional Clinical Manager in Lawrence. Social work is a career Kevin was devoted to as he was dedicated to protecting the well-being of all children.





Kevin was an avid reader and history buff. His hobbies included sports, trivia, listening to NPR, and taking his dog, Tess, on long walks. His true passion was his family and he was very proud to see his children go off to college this past fall.





Kevin leaves behind his beloved wife of 27 years Barbara (Mulloy) Kelly. He was the devoted father of 19 year-old twins Brian and Meg. He was the loving brother of Mary Sharon Gallagher and her husband Gleason of Carlisle, James F. Kelly, Jr. and his wife Valerie of Pembroke, Marilynn Shackelford and her husband Ronald of NC, Timothy Kelly of Marstons Mills, and the late Patrick Kelly. He was the brother-in-law of Richard Mulloy and his wife Nanci of Woburn, and Nancy Monahan and her husband Brian of Bedford. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.





Funeral from the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Saturday at 11am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Kevin's Eternal Life at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 12pm. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Friday 4-8 pm at the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment Wood End Cemetery, Reading.
