Lawrence C. Allen

Lawrence C. Allen, of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on Monday March 17, 2025 with his family by his side. He was 92 years of age.

Larry considered himself a lucky man. Reflecting on his life, he wrote: "I was born in the United States of America. That's probably the luckiest thing that happened to me in my whole life." Larry was a proud patriot who was active in local and state politics throughout his life.

A U.S. Army veteran, Larry was drafted in 1951 during the height of the Korean War, and was assigned to a Topo Survey Company headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany. After his service, Larry returned to the U.S. to work with his former employer, environmental engineering firm Metcalf & Eddy. In 1973, along with his close friend and colleague Ara Demurjian, Larry launched his own engineering firm. Throughout his career, Larry earned the greatest respect from employees, partners and clients alike. Everyone that crossed his path loved Larry. Today, the firm he co-founded still bears his name over 50 years later.

Larry was the 1988 President of Associated Builders and Contractors of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, where he promoted merit based construction firms. He was also the founding Executive Director of the Merit Construction Alliance where he served from 1998-2005.

Apart from his many professional accomplishments and impressive record of civic service, Larry's greatest legacy - and that which he was most proud of - is the love he shared with his family and friends. Larry’s office walls are covered with pictures of his loved ones - including his "sweetheart" and wife of nearly 70 years, Lucy; his 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; his parents and sister; his friends and colleagues; and of course, his dog and dedicated sidekick, Bailey - all intertwined with American flags, photos with his political favorites, and plaques and awards from the many groups that he served.

Larry loved to donate to veterans groups; the MSPCA; multiple medical research groups; and just about any charitable organization that reached out to him.

Larry had a big, positive presence; he freely shared his humor and signature barking laugh, he was generous with his support and words of encouragement, and he had a special knack for making those dear to him feel special and loved.

While he was self-proclaimed “Lucky Larry”, it was really all those that knew him or crossed his path who were the lucky ones.

Lawrence is the beloved husband of Anna Lucy (Tricca) Allen. He is the cherished father of John Allen, Timothy Allen and his fiance Nadiya Axiotakis, Robert Allen and his wife Maureen Chasson, and Laurie Twohig and her husband Michael. Loving grandfather of Joseph Allen and his wife Alyssa, Shauna Twohig and her fiance Kevin Taylor, Jason Allen and his wife Holly, Megan Pogue and her husband Taylor, Michael Allen, Samantha Allen, Jillian Allen and her fiance Jake Robillard, Peter Allen and his wife Kalie, Patrick Twohig and Elizabeth Allen. Great grandfather of Madison, Brynlee, Mia, Eli, Blake, Chloe, Chase and Emery. Dear brother of Joyce Crossen and her late husband Hugh. Uncle of Hugh Crossen Jr., Elaine Morisi and Linda Knarre. Best friend to his dog, Bailey.
