Lawrence M. Gilligan

Lawrence M. Gilligan of Reading passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was 93 years of age.

Born on November 26, 1926 in Malden, Lawrence was the loving son of the late Michael J. Gilligan and Helen (Brosnan) Gilligan. Lawrence was a warm and caring son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Lawrence was a loyal and dedicated salesman in the school supply industry retiring from Milton Bradley Corp. after many years. He proudly defended our freedom by serving in the United States Army as a TEC 5 from 1946 – 1947.

Lawrence was a fanatical tennis player who once won the Reading Town Tournament with a cast protecting his broken left wrist!

Lawrence was the beloved husband of the late Eileen (Devir) Gilligan. He was the dear father of Kevin Gilligan and his wife Sheila, Kathrine E. Beaton and George Beaton, Lawrence Gilligan and his wife Lisa, Jeanne Teague and her husband Paul, Matthew Gilligan and his wife Linda and Joseph Gilligan and his wife Mary. The cherished grandfather of Katie, David, Joseph, Lauren, Jennie, Michelle, Larry, Chloe, Mallie, Joe, Matt and Ella, Lawrence was the doting great grandfather of twins Benjamin and Michael. He was the dear brother of Bobby Daly and the late Mary Kelley, Billy, Bernard, John and Michael Gilligan and Danny Daly. Lawrence is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Friday, March 6th at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Lawrence's Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10:30am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Lawrence's Family on Thursday, March 5th from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
