Lawrence T. Martin of Burlington, formerly of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 1, 2026. Beloved husband for 71 years of the late Miriam (Lucey) Martin. He was 97 years of age.
Lawrence "Larry" was born in Cambridge on December 7, 1928. He was the son of the late Catherine and Edward Martin. Raised and educated in Cambridge, he attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and Rindge Technical High School. He married Miriam on September 9, 1951 in St. Mary’s Church. They resided in Cambridge, Malden and Stoneham. As they grew older they moved to Stonebridge Assisted Living facility in Burlington.
During his working years Larry worked at the Harvard University Library and after 35 years working at the Cambridge Public Library he retired.
Larry was a Boy Scout Troop Leader in Cambridge for many years. He was most proud of the troop as he took them on a 50 mile hike from New Hampshire to Massachusetts. They all had a great time and met lots of people along their way.
After attending the University of Massachusetts, he was certified to counsel alcoholics. He advised many clients at the Victory House in Boston.
Larry especially loved to sing. Upon his retirement, he became the Director of the Singing Grandpops of Arlington and sang with the Belaires at the Belmont Senior Center. He enjoyed singing at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Larry, he leaves his children, Joan M. Fitzpatrick and her husband Edward, Frank Martin, Edward L. Martin and his wife Judith, Kevin M. Martin and his wife Lynn and Jessica M. Martin and her partner Joseph Ferro. He is the loving grandfather of Erin Genova and her husband Eric, Kate Seaboyer and her husband Chris, Jeffrey Martin and his partner Lauren Gould, Kristin Calzon and her partner Brett Ripp, Peter Martin, Kristina Gilberg and her husband Michael, Lauren Martin, Kenneth Martin and his partner Amy Raymond, and Camdyn Ferro. Great-grandfather of Violet, Cooper, Ava, Autumn, Madelyn, Blake, Michael, Charles and Connor. Dear brother of the late Thomas, John, Francis, Joseph Martin, Kenneth McNeil, and his sister Ann Pennington. He is also survived by nieces & nephews.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with his family on Wednesday July 8th in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main Street (RT28) STONEHAM from 8:30am to 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Lawrence’s Eternal Life in Saint Patrick Church 71 Central Street Stoneham at 10am. Interment Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.
