Luanne (Nardella) Barile of Stoneham peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 after her courageous hard fought 42 year battle with lymphoma.
Everyone that knew Luanne, loved her. She is a beautiful woman inside and out and always has a smile on her face. Luanne is one of the happiest people you will know.
Raised in Somerville, she is the loyal daughter of Anna (Montagna) "Mamie" Nardella and her late husband Louis. Luanne is city born and city bred. We are often reminded of that and from time to time when we would see her Somerville "south paw" come out. She always speaks her mind and will tell you the truth whether you like it or not. She has a way with words and she speaks from the heart. She is class.
In 1972 she met the love of her life Ralph A. Barile. Together they began a journey that most people envy. That journey started like most, with dates, phone calls and laughs. However, in 1973 at age 21 Luanne was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Devastated, Luanne made many attempts to stop dating Ralph. She did not want to put him through the pain and suffering that she was about to endure. Little did she know just how much Ralph cared for her. It was the beginning of an amazing path filled with devotion and dedication to each other. He stayed with her, right by her side, and they fought together. Through many radiation treatments, tests, doctors and prayers, Luanne beat the Lymphoma and was in remission. Not knowing what the future held, they married each other on September 21, 1975. They moved to Woburn, bought their house and raised 2 beautiful boys. Her "boys", as she called them, were her world. Ralph was born in 1977 and Kevin in 1979. She attended all of their soccer games, swim meets, track meets, wrestling matches, boy scouts, school plays, etc. etc. The list goes on and on. She always let her "boys" know how proud she was of them.
On December 20th, 1993, Luanne and Ralph achieved one of their many dreams and purchased what is now known as the Barile Family Funeral Home in Stoneham.. Again they faced the unknown. They were devoted to each other and determined to make it work. They eventually made the decision to relocate and reside at the funeral home in Stoneham, making it their new home, their new journey, together as one. Luanne and Ralph became very involved in the community. They were constantly attending functions, fundraisers or whatever they could to help give back to a community that embraced them. Luanne and Ralph were members of Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, the Appian Club and several local groups in both Stoneham and Reading to help anyone, anywhere help was needed. In 2003, they purchased the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home in Reading. The towns of Stoneham and Reading welcomed them with open arms. Everyone knew Luanne. Her smile is electrifying. She is elegant.
On February 8th, 2017, Luanne and Ralph started another journey, one that would be the hardest and toughest journey they would ever endure. Luanne was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma. This was devastating to all of her family. However, Luanne fought this head on with courage, strength, class, and elegance. She wanted to fight this for her "boys" and her grandchildren. The unfortunate thing is that cancer does not have any compassion for family. It doesn't have any feelings for the person trying to fight it. It doesn't have feelings for your age, your life, your well being, your courage, your strength, your drive. It is lifeless. Luanne is full of love. She is full of strength. She is full compassion. She is full of life. Sadly, on May 3rd, 2017, Luanne finished her fight. Luanne passed away the same way she lived her life, with elegance, dignity, class and love. She is a lady.
We are sad that she is gone, but we know she is at peace. She is where she wanted to be. She always said " I have gotten 42 extra years. I got married, raised my "boys", had grandchildren, and built an empire." May you rest in eternal peace Luanne. It is our turn to sing over you.
Luanne is the beloved, devoted and beautiful bride of Ralph A. Barile. She is the devoted loving mother and best friend of her "boys" Ralph A. Barile Jr. and his wife Jillian and Kevin M. Barile and his wife Meg. Luanne is the cherished "mimi/grammy" of Ralph, III, Brenna, Michael, Reese and Regan. She is the dear sister of Rosalie Evangelista and her husband Fernando, Marylou Donlan and her husband John and the late Cosmo Nardella and his surviving wife Janet. Luanne is the loyal daughter of Anna (Montagna) "Mamie" Nardella and her late husband Louis. She is the caring sister in law of Michele Sweet, Beverly Dubiski, Karen Barile, Rozann Barile and the late Michael Barile. Luanne is also lovingly survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
