Lucy E. (Matrundola) Fionda

FIONDA, Lucy E. (Matrundola) of Stoneham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the age of 79 surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was the beloved wife for 57 memorable years to the late Francisco "Gus" Fionda. Lucy was born and raised in Medford, MA and became a long-term resident of Stoneham after marrying Gus and happily raising her family in the town. Lucy was the
devoted and caring mother of Ann Belanger and her husband William of Cumberland, RI, Laura Sheehan and her husband Timothy of Cumberland, RI, and Annette Fionda and her partner Jane Larsson of Sharon, MA. Lucy was also a loving grandmother to her lovely granddaughters Alexandra Sheehan,
Lindsay Sheehan, and Lauren Sheehan. She is the daughter of the late Andrea Matrundola and Angelina (Tortolano) Matrundola. Lucy is predeceased by her siblings Carmella Castrichini and her late husband Frank, Marie Guarino and her late husband Michael, Antoinetta Pacitto and her late husband Carmine, and Marino Matrundola and his surviving wife Ann. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Maria Centore and her late husband Louis, along with many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

Born in 1939, Lucy was the youngest daughter of Andrea and Angelina who migrated from Italy with their children and had Lucy once they were in the United States. Lucy loved her parents, siblings, and extended family and she shared many special stories about her family's adventures as they started their new lives in the United States. Lucy was a graduate of Medford High School Class of 1957. She was an Executive Assistant in the Teamsters' Union before raising her three daughters. Later in life, Lucy was a bookkeeper at Murray's Supply Corporation in Medford, MA where she enjoyed working for her brother Murray and her nephew Andrew. She forged many special friendships with the employees at Murray's.
Lucy enjoyed reading history, biographies, and taking her daughters on tours of historical sites around New England. She had a wonderful and positive outlook and touched people with her kind ways and lovely sense of humor.

Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Thursday, July 11,
2019 at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM from 4pm to 8pm. Parking attendants and elevator available.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 9am followed by a Mass Celebrating Lucy's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. at 10am. Interment will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of Lucy to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Attn: Dr. DeAngelo Cancer Research Fund, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston MA 02215.

The family would like to thank the team of wonderful doctors led by Dr. Daniel DeAngelo along with the nurses and medical personnel at Dana-Farber and her home health aide Elena Gomez who all took wonderful care of Lucy throughout her illness.
