Luigi S. Mancini of Woburn passed away Monday at the Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass. after a brief illness. He was 72 years of age.
Born in Cambridge, Mr. Mancini lived in Woburn for many years. He was employed by the United States Postal Service.
Mr. Mancini enjoyed playing the saxophone. Lou has been playing the alto sax since he was 12 years old, but by that time, he had already four years experience with the mandolin. His career as a performer started at age 8 and included experience with marching groups, polka bands and dance orchestras. A graduate of the Boston School of Music, Lou also studied in the Air Force and performed in many parts of the U.S. and overseas.
Luigi is survived by his loving wife Josephine (Riccobene) Mancini, his four children Michelle Welsh of N.C. Cheryl Nelson and her husband John of N.H.; Paul Mancini and his wife Carol of Billerica, and Gina Mancini and her fiancee Kevin Nellis of Chelmsford. He is the cherished grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 1. He is the brother of the late Guy Mancini of Bedford.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (Rt. 28) Stoneham on Thursday April 4, 2002 from 4-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Barbara's Church 138 Cambridge Road Woburn on Friday at 10:00am
