Margaret E. Curran

Margaret "Peggy" Curran of Reading, Massachusetts, formerly of Wakefield, died on Sunday morning, January 23, 2011, at the Kaplan Family Hospice Center in Danvers, Massachusetts. Born in Wakefield, Massachusetts on February 11, 1930, she was the youngest daughter of the late John Curran and Katherine (Galvin) Curran. She attended St. Joseph's School and later the Wakefield Public Schools. She worked for many years as a telephone operator. As a young woman, she moved to North Carolina and met Rufus and Mamie Herring and their children Emily, Linda Kaye, and David. The Herrings along with Emily's husband Gene and Emily's daughter Pamela Tilson, continued to be Peggy's "second family". Over the years she spent considerable time in both North Carolina and Massachusetts. She also enjoyed her times in Maine where she lived in the summers. Like her father, she was an avid Red Sox fan, and one of her great memories is when her daughter Kathy brought her to a game at Camden Yards, as she and Kathy had lived in Baltimore for a short period of time in the early '60's. Mostly, Peggy loved spending time and conversations with her many friends and her large extended family.



She is survived by her daughter Katherine Radocckia of Reading and her two grandsons, Nicholas and Daniel Radocckia, her brother Richard of Reading, her sisters-in-law Ardis Curran LaVoie and Jean Curran of Wakefield and Joyce Curran of Spring Hill, Florida, over 30 loving nephews and nieces, including William Curran of Wakefield, Massachusetts, too many to count great and great-great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. She is also survived by many friends, including Nancy Marshall of Reading and her North Carolina family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving siblings Dorothy Smith, John "Trip" Curran, William Curran, Gerald Curran, Leo Curran, Robert Curran, and Charles Curran. She also was predeceased by her loving companion of many years, Tony Cucurullo, formerly of Wakefield. The family wishes to thank her caretakers over the past six months, especially Marcia Pena whose dedication and devotion to Peggy was phenomenal and Erin Nesbeth of Mystic Valley Elder Services without whom Peggy would not have been able to live the last six months independently at her home as she so fervently desired.



A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 A.M. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at St. Agnes Church, Woburn Street, Reading, Massachusetts, followed by burial at Forest Glade Cemetery. There will be no calling hours, but there will be a Celebration of Peggy's Life immediately following burial at the Crystal Community Club on Preston Street in Wakefield, to which all relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Mystic Valley Elder Services, 300 Commercial Street, Malden, MA 02148.
