Margaret "Pat" Matola, born October 18, 1935, passed away Monday June 23, 2014, at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Born and raised in Charlestown, MA, Pat lived in Reading for 25 years raising her four girls. In 1987, she moved to Citrus Hills in Hernando, FL where she was a real estate agent for a number of years. She coordinated many events at the Ted Williams Museum, often with Ted Williams himself. She moved to Martha's Vineyard in 2005 and quickly settled into island life. Pat became a well-loved member of the Island Elderly Housing (IEH) community and was a staple at The Anchors in Edgartown. She enjoyed supporting local events, including MVRHS Minnesingers and theatre productions. A few of her proud Vineyard accomplishments include appearing in the Cape Cod Ballet's The Nutcracker in 2008 and throwing out the first pitch at a MV Sharks game in 2012. She was also a faithful member of the Good Shepard Parish. Pat enjoyed her many friends and acquaintances on the Vineyard, and was known for her zest for life and spunky sense of humor.
The daughter of the late Frank and M. Evelyn McMakin, and sister to the late Francis J. McMakin, Helen Royer, Evelyn Pierce, Bernard W. McMakin, Richard L. McMakin and Grace Wells, Pat was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and a dear friend to many. She was the beloved wife of Elmer Matola, who passed away in 1997. Pat was a devoted mother to Trisha Hill of Sharon, and her children Kyle and Kayla Sheehan; Chris Hill of Lynnfield, and her children Emily, Daniel and Joseph Staffier; Kathie Hill of Austin, TX; and Peggy Stone of Martha's Vineyard, her husband Jeff and her children Jessica, Brittany and Matthew.
