Marilyn M. (MacKenzie) Mercer of South Thomaston, formerly of Stoneham passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Winchester Hospital. She was 80 years of age.





Born in Boston, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Kenneth MacKenzie and E. Josephine (Tuttle) MacKenzie. Marilyn was a warm and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed.





Marilyn graduated from Stoneham High School in the class of 1948. She attended Schauffler College in Cleveland Ohio. Marilyn was employed for the Town of Stoneham in the Treasurer's office from 1980 - 1991. She worked at Stoneham Cooperative Bank from 1969 - 1980.





Marilyn was a member of the Stoneham Assembly # 48 Order of Rainbow Girls during High School. She was on the 250th Celebration Committee in Stoneham in 1975. Marilyn later worked at the Pen-Bay Medical Center in Rockport Maine as an Auxiliary and volunteer in the gift shop. She was the Election Clerk for the Town of South Thomaston, Maine.





Marilyn was the Director of the South Thomaston Library from 1994 - 2011. She was a member of the Wessaweskeag Historical Society of South Thomaston, Maine. She was also on the Sesquicentennial Committee for the Town of South Thomaston, Maine.





Marilyn loved to travel, read, garden, do crafts, research genealogy, collect Santa Clauses, bells and old green glass bottles. Most of all, she loved to make new friends, spend time with old friends and her family. She was most proud of her children, grandchildren and newest great grandchild. She treasured her sister, cousins, nieces, nephews and had many dear friends.





Marilyn was the beloved wife of Richard E. Mercer. She was the devoted mother of Pamela Pinard and her husband Kevin of Tewksbury, Richard Mercer and his wife Laurie, Randolph Mercer and his wife Kathy, all of Stoneham. Marilyn was the cherished grandmother of Stephen Mercer and his wife Danielle, Jennifer Gabriello and her husband Sal, Robert Mercer, Ashley Mercer and Abigail Pinard. She was the loving great grandmother of Aiden Mercer. Marilyn was the dear sister of Dorothea LaCasse and her husband Gerald, Evelyn Holden and her late husband Roger, and the late Kenneth and Donald MacKenzie. She was the sister in law of Lois MacKenzie and the daughter of the late Kenneth MacKenzie and E. Josephine (Tuttle) MacKenzie. Marilyn was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and good friends.





A Funeral Service celebrating Marilyn's life will be held on Saturday at 11am in the Chapel of the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Friday from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, W. Peabody.
