Marilyn E. (Jelley) Worthen of Stoneham passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Wilmington Health Care. She was 84 years of age.
Born in Stoneham, Marilyn was the loving daughter of the late William J. Jelley and Elsie G. (Hanington) Jelley. Marilyn was a warm and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn was raised in Stoneham and graduated from Stoneham Public Schools. She was the Queen of the Winter Ball and the Secretary of her Class, both in 1946. She attended Chandler Secretarial School in Boston. Marilyn was a lifelong member of All Saints Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry, altar guild and the Episcopal Church Women Society. She was a member of the Stoneham Historical Society and also served on the Board of Advisory for the Fuller House. In her spare time, Marilyn loved knitting, sewing, playing scrabble and attending family events, parties and gatherings.
Marilyn was the beloved wife of the late Gordon A. Worthen. She was the devoted mother of Richard G. Worthen and his husband Ronald P. Sullivan, Donna M. Kafel and her husband Ali. Marilyn was the cherished grandmother of Haniyah E. Terlaje and her husband Jonathan M., Tarik A. Kafel and Samir N. Kafel. She was the loving great grandmother of Jacob Terlaje and the dear sister of the late Dorothy E. Shuttleworth. Marilyn was the aunt of Joan S. Grady, Ann Whittaker, Caryl S. Haley, Diane Worthen - Hirsch, Lawrence P. Worthen and David R. Worthen. She was the beloved sister in law of James A. Shuttleworth and Dr. Leonard R. Worthen.
A Funeral Service Celebrating Marilyn's Eternal Life will be held on Thursday, February 28th, 2013 at 11am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 79 Central St. Stoneham. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Wednesday, February 27th, 2013 from 4-8pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Parking attendants and handicapped elevator are available.
