Mary P. Ebacher

March 29, 1914 — October 30, 2012

EBACHER, Mary (Petrone), 98 of Reading, passed away on Tuesday October 30, 2012. She was born on a small family farm in Berkeley Heights, NJ, the daughter of Frank and Agnes Petrone. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Albert, and is survived by her daughter, Denise Ebacher King, her son, Dennis P. Ebacher, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other family members. She was predeceased by her sisters, Anna Petrone, Philomena Carobrese, and Carmela DePinto, and by her brother, Anthony Petrone.



She worked as a secretary until May 1943 when she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in support of World War II. As a Staff Sergeant, she was stationed in Algeria, Italy, and then Germany. After the end of hostilities she remained in occupied Germany in support of the Allied Command in Frankfurt. While there, she met her husband, Albert. They were married in May 1949 in Heidelberg, Germany.

They returned to the United States and moved to Berkeley Heights where they had their two children.



She and the children followed her husband when he was transferred to Wiesbaden, Germany; Chateauroux, France; Salina, Kansas; and finally settled in Reading, Massachusetts.

She volunteered at St Agnes School and at Austin Preparatory High School where she worked for many years. Once their children had grown, Mary and Albert traveled extensively throughout the world.



Mary was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of St. Agnes Parish in Reading. She was a very strong woman with a wonderfully wicked sense of humor and an amazing memory with great stories to tell.



A Memorial Service Celebrating Mary's life will be held on Tuesday, November 13 at 10:30am at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St., Reading, MA. The funeral will be at Little Flower Church in Berkeley Heights, NJ on Saturday the 17th at 10am with a service at St. Mary's-Stony Hill Cemetery in Watchung, NJ.
