Mary Josephine (Flannery) Goddard of Reading passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Monday, October 6th, 2025. She was 92 years of age.
Born on Friday, April 28, 1933 in County Mayo, Ireland, Mary is the loving daughter of the late Patrick Flannery and Ann (Healey) Flannery. Mary is a warm, kind, gentle & loyal daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.
Mary, at the age of 18, left Ireland and arrived in New York City in 1951. She worked as a nanny and maid, making many lifelong friends while there.
She eventually relocated to the Boston area where she started a family and raised four children. She had many jobs, making many friends along the way. She was most proud of her job at Raytheon where she worked as an inspector for 20 years before her retirement.
She had the strong Irish work ethic, and loved her homeland of Ireland that she was fortunate to visit many times.
Mary is the beloved mother of Tom Goddard and his wife Elaine, Ann Clivio and her husband David, Mark Goddard and the late Michael Goddard. The cherished grandmother of Rebecca Goddard, Hannah Goddard, Nicholas Clivio and Marianne Goddard, she is the dear sister of the late Jack Flannery. She is also lovingly survived by many family and friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Mass Celebrating Mary’s Eternal Life on Wednesday, October 15th at 10:30am in Saint Agnes Church, 186 Woburn Street READING. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
