Pignone, Mary A. (Caruso) of Stoneham, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 12, 2023 after a brief illness.
Beloved wife of the late Richard Pignone Sr, Cherished mother of Dianne Capuano and her husband Frank, Mary Lou Neidholdt and her husband Dan and Richard Pignone Jr. and his wife Debra. Loving Grandmother of Frank Capuano and his wife Carly, Joe Capuano and his wife Allison, Christine Carlino and her husband Matt, Daniel Neidholdt, Jennifer Coco and her husband John, Richie Pignone, Alyssa Pignone and Julianna Pignone. She was also the Great-Grandmother of Hayden, Landon, Savanah, Daniella, Vinny and Lorenzo. Also predeceased by her brothers Louie Caruso, Joe Caruso, Tony Caruso, Henry Caruso, John Caruso and her sister Phyllis Boujoulian.
She lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength. Mary was born in Watertown and moved to Stoneham in 1969 with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who cherished her family above all else. She was known for her incredible cooking, especially her homemade pasta and cookies, which were always the centerpiece of family gatherings. Her warm and welcoming personality made everyone feel at home.
Mary and Richard opened Richard's Gift Shop in Stoneham Square in 1963 and have opened various other Gift Shops in the past 60 years. Mary continued working at the store well past her 90th birthday. She became like a mother to many of the Girls who worked at the store through the years. Many of them just came back to help out for the busy Christmas season just to get a taste of Mom's homemade cookies that she always brought to the store.
While we are saddened by her passing we take comfort in knowing that she lived a full and happy life. Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who knew and loved her.
