Mary F. (Serpa) Sousa, beloved wife of Edward A. Sousa, passed away on Thursday, December 8th, 2022 just after midnight, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Maia, Sao Miguel, Portugal, she is the loving daughter of the late Humberto Serpa and Maria Nazaret (Camara) Serpa presently of Arlington.

Mary was a graduate of Arlington High School, class of 1974. She earned her Nursing Degree from Mount Auburn Nursing School in Cambridge and a Bachelor's Degree from Emmanuel College in Boston. She was a talented and caring nurse, a published scholar, and a dedicated teacher and mentor. She took great pride in nurturing talent and advancing the field of nursing.

Mary was many things—a wonderful cook, a keen traveler, a budding painter, and a skilled knitter—but above all else Mary was a giver and a beacon of light to all those lucky enough to cross her path. Her warmth and kindness will be missed.

Mary married the love of her life, Edward, in 1982. Together they raised their family in North Reading. They were deeply devoted to one another and to their children. The inseparable pair just celebrated 40 years of marriage in September.

Mary was a devoted mother to Jacquelyn Sousa and her wife Aimee Carvalho, and Michael Sousa and his fiancé Samantha Spano. Doting grandma to grand dogs Calvin and Daisy. Loving sister of Ezabel Lynch, Salina Kopellas and Daniel Serpa, and caring aunt to many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
