Matthew J. Peterson Basile
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew J. Peterson Basile, beloved son, father, brother, and friend, on February 11th, 2025. Matthew, born on February 16th, 1971, in East Boston and raised in Stoneham, Massachusetts, lived a life full of love, compassion, and generosity. He had a true zest for life and was known for his infectious spirit, kind heart, and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met.
Matthew was an athlete at heart, playing both ice hockey and baseball growing up, and his love for sports continued throughout his life. He was an avid golfer, an outdoorsman who cherished hunting, and a dedicated reader. His curiosity and enthusiasm for life were contagious, and he passed down his love of adventure and exploration to his children.
Matthew's greatest pride was his family. He loved his children fiercely: his son, Nicholas Basile, and his daughters, Skyla Lusby (husband Peyton Lusby), River Basile, and Maddison Basile. Matthew’s bond with his children was unbreakable, and he showed them all what it meant to love selflessly and deeply.
He was the son of the late Sherid P. Basile and Vincent D. Basile. He loved his parents with every fiber of his being and made sure that their legacy would live on. He would often talk about the memories he had with his parents and how much he missed them. He is also survived by his sister Jennifer Jenkins, with whom he held close to his heart. His niece, Miles Jenkins, and nephew, Jake Jenkins, were also very special to him. He also had a long-time partner, Nicole, with whom he made many memories with. Along with his loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Matthew was a jack of all trades—always ready to help, whether he was fixing a car, paving roads or installing fencing he could do any job that was presented to him. His work ethic and dedication were evident in everything he did. He was a man who took pride in his craft and his ability to help others.
Every year, his family looked forward to their Thanksgiving gatherings at his parents' house, Christmas Eve dinners at his sister Jennifer's home, and Easter dinners filled with laughter and love. These family traditions were some of the most cherished moments in his life and he always looked forward to them.
Matthew will be remembered for his boundless compassion, his big heart, and his unshakeable devotion to his loved ones. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and love will live on through his family, his friends, and the countless lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made in Matthew’s memory to St. Patrick's Parish, 71 Central St, Stoneham, MA 02180.
Family and friends will gather at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. Stoneham MA, on Monday, February 24th at 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM to honor his life. A funeral mass in celebration of Matthew will be held at St. Patrick's Parish in Stoneham on Monday at 10:00 AM. Services will conclude with Matthew's burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Stoneham.
Rest in peace, Matthew. You will forever be in our hearts.
