Matthew Dennis

Matthew Stephen Dennis, of Ayer, formerly of Reading, passed on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 43 years old. He is a beloved son, partner, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin and friend.

Matthew is the cherished son of Lorraine and Stephen Dennis, the dear brother of Margaret H. Dennis, and the loving partner of Brigitte Ferrante. He is the treasured nephew of Michael and Jean Hart, Michael and Diane Dennis, David Dennis, Wendy Dennis and Steven Breton, Donald Hendrich and the late Christina Hendrich, Katherine Hart and the Late Russell F. Hart, the late Christine A. Hart and Nancy J. Hart. The beloved Cousin of Andrea, Michelle, and Michael Hart, Jesse and Lucas Hendrich. Doting Grandson of the late Dorothy A. and Alfred P. Hart, Thelma T. and Richard Dennis.

Matthew (Matt) was born in Boston and raised in Reading, MA. He graduated from Reading Memorial High School (RMHS) and attended New England College in Henniker, NH.

As an infant, Matt loved being read to and later, he began reading to himself about animals of all kinds, dinosaurs, encyclopedias, legends and myths, storybooks, and poetry. He also wrote many stories about these subjects and became a talented poet. His first book of poetry will be published this year.

Matt had a bright, creative and quirky personality and was well loved by his family and friends. He acted and sang with the family in community theater as a child, was a member of the RMHS Drama Club and appeared in several plays in college. He and his high school friends created a very popular local television program with sketch comedy called “Wild Stallions.”

Matt was raised at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading and found many life-long friends there. In Sunday School and Coming of Age he learned about religions all over the world and also joined friends in the Youth Group at St. Agnes Church in Reading and was able to share much of what he had learned with them. In college, he made a life changing visit to Japan with a group of young adults from the U.S. and Japan. Matt learned about Japanese culture, discovered Buddhism, and visited Hiroshima.
