Maureen M. (Horan) Sannella of Stoneham passed away peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, on Sunday, January 2, 2022. Born in Medford and raised in Arlington, Maureen was the loving daughter of the late James and Isabelle (Coyne) Horan.
Maureen was a graduate of Matignon High School and Mt. Auburn Hospital School of Nursing and worked as the head nurse of the labor and delivery floor at Mt. Auburn Hospital prior to raising her family. In later years, she worked as a cashier supervisor at Stop & Shop in Stoneham. Maureen was deeply committed to her faith. She believed in always doing for and giving to those in need. She was a devoted parishioner at Saint Patrick's Church in Stoneham, where she taught religious education, sang in the choir and volunteered in numerous ministries through the years.
Maureen would often reminisce about her childhood vacations spent at Hampton Beach, and continued those annual trips for decades with her husband and children. Many of the best family memories were created when her and John's siblings, nieces and nephews came up for a visit to the cottage. Maureen loved spending late afternoons on the beach with a good book.
For decades, friends and neighbors could find Maureen enjoying her daily walks. More recently, she came to love attending her yoga classes several times a week. In her downtime, she was often found doing a puzzle, or putting her sewing and knitting talents to work, creating beautiful baby blankets that she gifted to newborns of family and friends. Maureen enjoyed watching a variety of sports, especially the Red Sox, but nothing brought her more pride and joy than attending her grandchildren's games. As their number one fan, she could always be found at the fields or gyms rooting on "the kids".
More than anything, Maureen simply loved to care for and be with her family. Whether celebrating a holiday, a birthday, or inviting family over just to be together, Maureen's joy was to have her loved ones at her home, which always included a delicious meal, a tableful of home-baked treats and hot drinks for everyone. Maureen was a warm, kind and gentle daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.
Maureen was the beloved wife of John Sannella, Jr., to whom she was married for 57 years. She was the devoted mother of Donna and John Cargill, John Sannella and Karin DiNapoli, Laurie and Joseph Abdella, Maureen and Larry Hurley, and Patrice and John Marcella. She was the cherished grandmother of Michael and Matthew Sannella, Andrew Abdella, Abigail and Katherine Hurley, Amanda DeVincent, and Nicholas, Taylor and Adam DiNapoli. Maureen was the dear sister of John and Mary Horan, Richard and Joan Horan, Robert and Claire Horan, William and Lisa Horan, Stephen and Gail Horan, the late James and Ann Horan, the late Paul Horan, and the late Isabelle Horan. She was the sister-in-law of Nancy Horan, Marie Forti and Bernadette Christopher, the late Paul Forti and the late Kenneth Christopher. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
