Meredith L. Coffin

Meredith L. Coffin, 53, a long-time resident of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30th, 2026 at Cooperative for Human Services's group home in Medford.

Born with Down syndrome on October 17, 1972, Meredith brightened her family's lives with her quick wit and loving nature. Her kind spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Meredith was a graduate of Stoneham High School and lived in Stoneham until her move to Medford two years ago. Music was one of Meredith's greatest passions. She especially adored Sir Paul McCartney and The Beatles. She knew all of their songs and even the birthdays of the bandmates. She also had a strong bond with cats, earning her the nickname of Cat Woman. She delighted in trips to the circus, watching parades and fireworks, camping, and treasured summers with her family on Cape Cod. It was there that she was the happiest, especially sitting on the porch, eating a donut and watching the cars drive by.

Meredith is predeceased by her beloved parents, John S. Coffin and Iva J. (Langille) Coffin, and her much-loved brother bear, as she called him, Peter Coffin. She is the cherished sister of: Douglas Coffin; Cheryl Coffin and her husband Blaine Stone; Brenda Coffin and her husband Jeff Calder; and Kristin Pineau and her husband John Pineau. She also leaves behind her nephew, Michael Pineau; her nieces, Emily Lacey and her husband Patrick; Brittany Stone; and Samantha Stone and her husband Oscar Cortez. Meredith was also a proud great-aunt to Nora and Corey Lacey, who brought her much joy.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Cooperative for Human Services and the extraordinary staff within their Wolcott Street home. Their compassion, dedication, and unwavering kindness and support will never be forgotten. In addition, Meredith's time with the staff at Shore Collaborative's day program in Woburn is tremendously appreciated as well. Their music program offered Meredith a creative and expressive outlet that she truly loved.

Meredith's life is a reminder that the simplest moments matter most, like sitting outside with a cold Coke in hand on a summer day. She will be missed and forever remembered for her warm smile, funny personality, and the happiness she brought to those fortunate enough to have known her.

A Funeral Service Celebrating Meredith's Eternal Life will be held in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT28) STONEHAM on Monday September 14th, 2026 at 10 am. Interment will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
