Michael J. Rolli

February 8, 1924 — September 1, 2008

Michael J. Rolli of Stoneham passed away on Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. He was 84 years of age.





Michael was married for 60 years to Clara (Giuliano) Rolli. He was born, raised and educated in Stoneham. Michael was the former Director of the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare Food Distribution Programs. Mr. Rolli dedicated over 50 years of his life to Public Service in Stoneham. He was instrumental in organizing the annual Senior Citizen Christmas Party, he was involved with the Board of Health, the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Appeals, and the Local Board of Public Welfare.





Michael was also involved in various Committees in Stoneham including: Member of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee, he was the Vice Chairman SHS Building Committee. Michael was a member of the Governor's Advisory Committee for the Elderly and Homeless under Governor Dukakis, Town Common Committee Past Director, member of the Stoneham Boys Club, Past President Stoneham Chamber of Commerce, Chairman and Co-Founder, Stoneham Crime Watch Committee, and a Member of the North School Improvement Council.





Mike was known for saying "Don't worry about it... I'll take care of it"... and most of the time he did!





During World War II, Michael served as a US Navy Radar-man Second Class, serving on Minesweeper Ship USS Broadbill. He took part in D-Day operations during the Invasion of Normandy. In 2000, Mr. Rolli received a letter from the Government of France for his contribution in liberating France.





Michael was the devoted father of Janice Droz, Judi Catalano and her husband Stephen, all of Stoneham, Joyce Amazeen and her husband Ted of Wilmington. He was the cherished grandfather of Daniel and Kyle Droz, Mark, Kayla and Deven Catalano, all of Stoneham, Lauren and Lindsey Amazeen of Wilmington. Michael was the dear brother of the late John M. Rolli and Emma R. Milio. Michael was the loving son of the late Ugo Rolli and Josephine (Nicollazzo) Rolli. He was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.





Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Friday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Michael's life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Thursday from 4-8pm. Parking attendants will be available. Interment Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
