Michael P. Uva of Stoneham, formerly of Medford, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years of age.
Born on April 23, 1936 in Boston, Michael is the loving son of the late Pasquale Uva and Rose (Ianello) Uva. Michael was a warm and caring husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Michael is the beloved husband for 58 years of Mary (Rotondo) Uva. He is the devoted father of Paul Uva and his wife Kathleen (DeRoche), Karen Sweet and her husband Paul and Diana Barbera and her husband Rich. The cherished grandfather of Michael and Bryan Uva, Stephanie and Daniel Sweet, Jessica, Gina, and Matthew Barbera. Michael is the dear brother of Anne Gouveia and her husband Paul, Albert Uva and his wife Linda and the late Anthony Uva and his late wife Emily. He is the brother in-law of Manka Saccoccio and her late husband Joseph. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael was a loyal and dedicated member of the Wakefield Elks for many years. He is an honorary life member and trustee for The Wakefield Lodge of Elks Post 1276 and he was also the President, Treasurer and Secretary for the Elks Bowling League. Michael was a member of both ASA & ENEBUA Umpire Associations and The Holy Name Society. He coached many youth sports and was involved in many community activities in Stoneham. Michael was a board and committee member for Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall coming to Stoneham. He loved playing Santa Claus for EMARC for over 50 years. During the Korean Conflict, Michael proudly defended our freedom by serving as a Specialist 3rd Class in the United States Army.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT28) STONEHAM Thursday, June 28th, 2018 at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Michael's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the Family on Wednesday, June 27th from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attandants and elevator are available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Stoneham.
