Michael P. Visocchi

Michael P. Visocchi of Stoneham peacefully passed away on April 16, 2016 at 97 years. He is a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Michael is the beloved husband for sixty-eight years of Eleanor M. Visocchi. He is the devoted father of Ronald and his wife Maureen and David and his wife Patricia. Michael is the cherished grandfather of Michael and his wife Alli, Derek, Andrea, Tracey and Julie. He is the great-grandfather of Lexington. Michael is the loving son of the late John and Filomena Visocchi. He is the dear brother of Eleanor, Alfreda and the late Jennie, Evelyn, Betty, Kathleen, Elsie and Emily. Michael is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Michael served in the front lines of World War II throughout France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He served under General Patton, Commander of the 7th Armored Division. He was an unsung hero who fought in the second wave of the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. Later, he requested a reduction in grade to remain with his unit and volunteered as a scout whose mission was to go on reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines to provide intelligence.

Yet, he will be remembered for his gentleness, his humor and his love of family. A man whose own son described him as velvet on the outside - yet you always knew there was the strength of steel on the inside.

A Funeral Service Celebrating Michael's life will be held in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street, (RT28), STONEHAM, on Thursday, April 21st at 1pm. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories prior to the service from 11-1pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants and elevator available.
