Monte J. Zopatti, born on October 14, 1919, a longtime resident of Reading, MA, passed away on March 23, 2016. Formerly of Roxbury and Cambridge, MA, Monte is survived by daughters, Carolyn and Sylvia, son-in-laws Douglas and Seth, and grandchildren James, Jennifer, Bret, and Ross. Ivy, Monte's wife of fifty-five years, passed away in 2003.
Prior to WWII, Monte worked in Coply Plaza Hotel in Boston. After the war, he worked until retirement as a plater - coating metal objects electrolytically with decorative or protective surfaces.
During WWII, Monte was a member of the 144th Armored Signal Company, which was a unit of the US 4th Armored Division that led Patton's charge across Europe. He carried messages and equipment by jeep in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe campaigns.
Monte and Ivy owned and enjoyed a cottage on New Hampshire's Ossipee Lake for over thirty years. The combined lake and city living that Monte provided, by working two or more jobs at a time, were a real advantage that both his daughters remember fondly.
He was an active member of the Fellowship Bible Church of Burlington, MA and regularly attended the Wakefield retired men's group.
