Nancy Doherty McDonough

January 2, 1957 — October 19, 2014

Nancy Louise (Doherty) McDonough, 57, of Stoneham, formerly of Melrose, passed away October 19th, 2014 at Tufts Medical Center, following complications from a stroke that occurred while at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Survived by her loving husband of 37 years Stephen McDonough, their daughter Megan, son Stephen, and his wife Kristen Shirey. She leaves behind her mother Ann Doherty; siblings Pat Doherty and her spouse Ken Estey, Owen Doherty and his husband Robert Watkins, Dan Doherty and his wife Stephanie, John Doherty and his wife Monique, brother-in-law Richard Comeau, and many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her sister Ellen Comeau and father Owen Doherty Sr. Nancy's altruism was infectious, her kindness genuine, and her compassion consuming. She placed the needs of those she loved above her own. In fact, most people were unaware that she lived with chronic pain, was legally blind, and lived with a traumatic brain injury for 25 years. Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance during visiting hours Thursday October 23, 4-8PM at Barile Funeral Home, 482 Main St., Stoneham, MA. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10AM Friday at St. Patrick Parish, 71 Central Street, Stoneham. In lieu of flowers, Nancy's family asks that you make a donation in her honor to the Brain Injury Association of America.
