Neil D. Joudrie, of Reading, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at his home.
Neil spent his early childhood in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Before the family moved to Reading in 1969, Neil was an exceptional hockey player, so good that he was invited to play at an elite hockey camp at the Tam O'Shanter arena in Toronto Canada. This camp was for young professional prospects. Some of the instructors were Canadiens player Peter Mahovlich and Boston Bruins great Bobby Orr, among others.
Upon graduating high school, Neil began working for Nynex and retired after 30 years of service. During that time, he worked predominantly in the Cambridge area as a lineman, serving some of those years as a shop steward. Neil had many stories to share concerning his work experiences. Some were hysterical, and others could make you cringe. Neil was often called upon by family and friends to resolve their phone issues. Even on his days off, he managed to make time. Neil had a passion for the ocean and sailing. He enjoyed practicing the martial art of Aikido. He was an avid reader and liked the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. Neil was also a collector of Star Trek memorabilia. He was a proud and independent thinker. Neil will be missed and remembered by his family and friends.
