Obituary

Nicholas Salerno, beloved son of the late Nicholas and Ilean (Carroll) Salerno, passed away on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 with his loving family at his side.

Nick grew up in Somerville and attended Somerville schools.  He was a proud United States Army Combat Veteran and served during the Vietnam War.

After his service, Nick settled in Somerville and then Brockton.  He worked devotedly as a substance abuse counselor and for Teen Challenge in Brockton for many years.  Nick dedicated his life to helping people in need.

His greatest joy came from being with his family.  Nick was a dedicated uncle and made sure to spoil his niece, nephew, great niece and great nephews.

Nick is the devoted brother of Kathleen Toppi and her late husband Ronald, cherished uncle of Kelly Almieda and her husband Gregory, Gregory Toppi and his wife Gena, great uncle to Cole  Almieda, Luca and Anastasia Toppi. Nephew to surviving aunt Anna Messuri and loving cousin to many.

Friends and family are cordially invited to visiting hours at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St. North Reading (Corner of Park St. and Rt. 28 at the Reading Line) on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 4 to 8pm.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated for Nick on Wednesday, October 25th, 2023 at 10:30am at the Cota Funeral Home.  Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
