Oswald L. Zappa

January 12, 1931 — September 4, 2021

Oswald L. Zappa, of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 4, 2021. He was 90 years of age.

Born in Cleveland Ohio, Oswald was the son of the late Marco and Yolanda (Circi) Zappa. Oswald was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Ozzie received degrees from Case Western Reserve, and had a long, successful career as an aeronautical engineer. One of his achievements was development of the heat shield used for the Apollo lunar landing missions.

Ozzie was passionate about living, insisting on and accepted nothing less than perfection. He was an avid gardener and an amazing woodworker, so good that many meeting him later in life assumed that was his profession. He made many exquisite pieces of furniture for his family, and crafted intricate panelling throughout his home. But above all, Ozzie loved his family, the best times for him were spent with his grandchildren and great-grand children. He was a true pater familius, the guiding light who will be sorely missed.

Oswald is the beloved husband of Dora (Labella) Zappa. He is the cherished father of Victoria Conley and her husband Daniel, Marc Zappa and his wife Deb, Cynthia Durgin, Camille Zappa and her husband Mark Howes, Christopher Zappa and his partner Lorna Louise McLellan, and Robert Zappa and his wife Beth. He is the devoted grandfather of 11 and great grandfather of 9. He is the dear brother of Hugo Zappa and his late wife Laura and the late Mary Miragliotta and her late husband Sam. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share his memories with the family on Friday September 10, 2021, at the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT28) STONEHAM from 8:30 to 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Oswald's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 am.
