Otino "Woody" Monaco died peacefully on June 25, 2019 at the age of 93, wrapped in warmth and support by all his loved ones at the Sutton Hill Center in North Andover, MA, after living a full and blessed life. Woody will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, proud grandfather, "wanna be" professional singer and an honored US Navy veteran.
In 1956, Woody married the love of his life, Connie Monaco who preceded him to heaven last year, and raised a family of five children, in Medford, and then went on to welcome and commit his expanded heart to his fifteen incredible grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He leaves behind his lessons and legacy in his daughter, Christina Quill and her husband John,
Regina Hutchinson and her husband John, his son, John A. "Johnny" Monaco, and his daughter Carla Moriarty and her husband Jim. He will also now join his late son, Joey Monaco, in his eternal life.
His secret to a long and happy life was simple – be fully involved in your family's passions and celebrations, share lots of good meals, red wine, and laughs and tears with those you love, and build confidence and positivity in everyone you meet along the journey. Having grown up in Somerville with four brothers, he will be remembered for his strong faith, fierce loyalty, and drive to keeping family together as his mission to living. He spent his entire career working for the Boston Edison and then enjoyed many years of retirement doing the things that brought him joy, like being an enthusiastic fan during his grandchildren's sports events, doing crossword puzzles, playing card games, and eventually becoming the 'master of Checkers".
Woody brought to life the lyrics of his favorite song, "My Way" for many decades. We will remember all the wonderful times we were blessed to be with him and forever will cherish his final message of "Hoya! Hoya! Maka Toya!" until we meet again.
