It was all about her boys; always! Jonathan, Dave, and forever Rob. She was taken away, much too suddenly and much, much too soon. Even more, Michele, Michael and Richard are now without their little sister, who somehow had also managed to become "the boss of them". But we all pray, together with faith and confidence, that she's now home again with Momma and Dad, Bamp and Nana, Bub and Nana, and finally and at long last, "Auntie" Laura.
For all of her family, her extended family included, her conviction for what was right and her insistence that their bar should always be higher, became the standards; that greater target for all of us to reach for each and every day. She lovingly always had her guiding hand on us, and never, ever hesitated to just as passionately celebrate each and every milestone of our lives. Whether it be the "Honors" posted on the fridge, or her cheering for the biggest and even the littlest victories from court and field-side, or most of all for the way her boys chose their friends, made decisions, and treated others, her pride in her family was boundless and visible to all. Long distance could neither diminish her love for, nor her pride in all the "Special Olympics" and horseback riding medals and ribbons, stage & movie acclaim, the culinary arts achievements, and many other athletic, dance and academic successes of Heather, Michael and Ashley in Texas, and Ben, Erin, and Kirstin, in Maine. It was always best when her family could gather with her, and then at the end, she would sit back with a "nice cup of tea", softly smile and quietly say: "it was a nice day".
Pam was a proud graduate of Boston College and had a stellar professional career at Bingham, Dana & Gould (which became Bingham McCutchen in 2002), one of Boston's oldest and largest law firms. She joined the firm on January 23, 1984 as a Legal Secretary and grew along with the firm over the next 30 years.
Pam was promoted to Administrative Secretary and was responsible for supervising and coordinating secretarial workflow. In 1995, when the firm established a marketing department, Pam volunteered to work with the director of marketing. She helped build the firm's new identity and coordinated the development of its first web site.
In 1998, Pam left the secretarial and administrative ranks and continued to build an impressive career in law firm marketing, first as the Marketing and Business Development Coordinator, then Senior Manager, Marketing and Business Development.
In 2004, Pam was promoted to Director of Marketing and Business Development Operations. She was responsible for department leadership, promotion and branding, business development, training, and collaboration with other related departments.
Throughout her career at Bingham, she served as a valued coach, mentor and friend to dozens of colleagues across the country and around the world. Whenever there was a question related to marketing, the answer was always "Ask Pam; she will know."
On the day she died, Pam was scheduled to start the next chapter in her career as Director of Marketing at Burns & Levinson, another well known and successful Boston law firm. She was looking forward to contributing her knowledge and experience from Bingham, building a new team and forging new friendships.
At 57, Pamela leaves her beloved and devoted husband of 31 years, Rob, and her sons, her life's treasures, Jonathan and David, of North Reading. She was predeceased by her mother and father Michael & Agnes Iovine of Somerville, and her mother-in-law Millie Richard, of Dexter, Maine. Pam also leaves her sister Michele & Joe Davis of Marblehead, brothers Michael & Mary-Lou Iovine of Houston, and Richard & Billie Iovine of Danvers. She is survived by her father-in-law Earl Richard of Dexter, Maine, brothers-in-law Kevin & Rhonda Richard of FL and Michael Richard & Peter Gibson, of Waban; and her sisters-in-law Mary Taylor, and Kathy & Dave Pierce of Maine. One of "THE Thirteen", Pam's loving and cherished cousins now must stand alone, without her. Pamela also leaves her Auntie Flo, Uncle John, Uncle Chuck and Auntie Anna, along with the galaxy of her extended family of the wonderful young men and women of Austin Prep and Suffolk University who have been classmates, teammates, and best friends of Jonathan and David through the many years.
Pam's funeral will begin at the Funeral Home on Oct. 26th at 10am. Her Funeral Mass will be held in St. Theresa's Church, 63 Winter St. (Rte. 62), North Reading at 11am. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday Oct. 25th from 2-6pm. Pam will be laid to rest at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, Pam's family respectfully requests that you might consider a donation in her name to the Pamela Richard Austin Prep Academic Grant Fund, c/o Reading Co-Operative Bank; 180 Haven Street; Reading, MA. 01867.
