Patrick Lewis Hathaway

January 9, 1957 — September 23, 2012

Patrick Lewis "Rick" Hathaway of Reading, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012. He was 55 years of age.





Born in Spokane, Washington, Rick was the loving son of Ernest C. Hathaway and the late Billie J. (Lee) Hathaway. Rick was a warm and caring son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, in - law and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.





Rick was a Retired Master Sergeant of The United States Air Force. He served in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Saudi - Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Iran. Rick graduated from Lynn Public Schools and Salem State University, where he earned Dean's List.





Rick was also a dedicated Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, working in Framingham, Winchester, Lowell and most recently, in Chelmsford. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, The Reading VFW and the Reading American Legion.





An avid Patriots and Red Sox fan, Rick also volunteered for the Special Olympics and as an assistant coach for his children's sports teams.





Rick was the beloved husband of Joanne A. (Holmes) Hathaway. He was the devoted father of Christy Hathaway Bashor and her husband Eric of Nashua, New Hampshire, Katie Hathaway of Derry, New Hampshire, Sean Hathaway and Megan Hathaway, both of Reading. Rick was the cherished grandfather of Aiden, and the dear brother of Rhonda Paquette of Tyngsboro, Mark Hathaway of Manchester, New Hampshire and the late Robert Glenn Hathaway and Linda Hathaway Calder. He was the son in law of Bill Holmes and Beverly (Froio) Holmes of Reading. Rick was the brother in law of Glenn Calder, Eric Paquette, Lisa Hathaway, Michael Holmes, Tim Holmes, Beverly Seibold, Julie Gauthier, Ben Holmes and the late Billy Holmes. He was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.





Funeral from the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING Saturday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Rick's Eternal Life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Friday from 3-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Charles Lawn Memorial Park, Reading.
