Paul F. Cullen

September 29, 1932 — July 4, 2016

Paul F. Cullen, age 83, died unexpectedly on July 4, 2016 at Lahey Hospital, Burlington, MA, surrounded by his family. He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years Geri (Silvey); his children Teresa Cuddy and husband Michael, Denise Singleton and husband John, Doreen Oughton and husband Quentin Lewis, Paula Uttaro and husband Ray, James Cullen and wife Di, and Stephen Cullen and wife Adrienne; grandchildren Michael, Brian and Steven Cuddy; Devin, Patrick and Leah Singleton; Andrew and Sarah Oughton; Salvatore and Joseph Uttaro; Ryan, Derek and Thomas Cullen; Bridget, Sean and Erin Cullen; great-grand-daughter Paige Teresa Cuddy; sister Dorothy Casper, brother William Cullen and wife Marguerite; and many dear nieces and nephews. He was raised in Malden by his mother Mary (Ellard) Cullen. His father James Cullen died when Paul was a toddler, and his brother James died in 2013. Paul raised his family in Medford, and spent his later years in Reading. He worked as a meat-cutter at the A&P Supermarket for many years, and later worked for the City of Melrose.

He always had a story at the ready, and his playful manner and sense of humor endeared him to all he met. With his gift of welcome, he made everyone feel like a friend. He had a wonderful circle of loyal, lifelong friends, but his greatest pride and joy was his family. He thought the sun and moon hung on his children and grandchildren, and was amazed at his good fortune in capturing Geri's heart. A sentimental man, tears flowed at almost every family celebration. Paul was proud of his Newfoundland heritage. He was an avid card player, and enjoyed many years of travel with Geri after his retirement. He brought a special light to this world and will be missed by many.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 14 at the Knights of Columbus 570 North Ave, Wakefield, MA 01880. The service begins at 3 p.m. followed by visitation / reception. All are welcome to attend the service, and/or drop in any time from 4-7 p.m. to greet the family, share stories about Paul, or play a game of cards, which was how Paul most wanted to be celebrated.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481, would be much appreciated.
