Paul F. "Pablo" Doherty of Reading passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington.





Born in Reading, Pablo was a lifelong resident of Reading. He was the loving son of the late Joseph Doherty and Alice (Murphy) Doherty. Paul was a graduate of Reading High School. Following high school, he attended the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston where he earned his degree as an embalmer and Funeral Director.





Pablo was a noble man and a dear friend to many. He touched the lives of everyone he ever met. He was the owner of the Joseph Doherty Funeral Home in Reading, choosing to dedicate his life to helping others in their time of despair. With a reputation as a kind and gentle man, he lived true to this every day. He was known for his laid back demeanor and easy going attitude.





Paul was dedicated to his family. His wife, daughter and son truly meant the world to him. He was admired by the many people he met in his various walks of life. Whether it was in kindergarten, high school, or just around town, everyone always remembered "Pablo."





A true historian, Paul knew just enough about everyone to always have a story. His memory was priceless and he never forgot a face or a name. Paul was also a highly decorated Vietnam War Veteran. He was enlisted in the Army, and was assigned to the airborne division. During the war, Paul was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Valor for his selfless actions.





After returning from Vietnam, Pablo began working for his father Joe at the Funeral Home. Once again, Paul chose a selfless profession and continued to help people. He became a member of the Reading chapters of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and V.F.W. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. He continued in his career until his passing. He had made thousands of friendships in his life. He will never be forgotten and will always be missed.





Paul was the beloved and devoted husband of Carol A. (Williams) Doherty. He was the cherished father of Kate and Michael Doherty and the dear brother of Joseph Doherty, Father Robert Doherty, Mary Busby and Rita Swanson.





A Funeral Mass in celebration and thanksgiving for Paul's life will be held on Tuesday at 10:30am in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. READING. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Sunday 5-8pm & Monday 2-6pm in the Joseph Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING. Parking is available in the municipal parking lot located behind Atlantic Supermarket on Haven St. Services will conclude with burial in Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
