Paul E. McDonald of Stoneham passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. He was 84 years of age.
Born on Sunday, August 22, 1938 in Cambridge, Paul was the loving son of the late Richard McDonald and Catherine (Lombard) McDonald. Paul was a warm, kind, and gentle son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be truly missed.
Paul was the beloved husband of Rosemarie (McDonough) McDonald. He was the devoted father of Jennifer and her husband Michael Patterson, Brent and his wife Laurie (Pereira), Matthew, Kevin, and Anthony. He was the cherished grandfather of Brody & Brynn McDonald and Zhara & Maxwell Patterson. Paul was the dear brother of the late Frank, Catherine, and Henry McDonald, and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Paul and his wife, Rosemarie, moved to Stoneham in 1978 where he went on to become an ardent member of the community. Over the next two decades Paul’s numerous efforts and contributions included chairing the Bicentennial Committee and helping bring to Stoneham’s Town Hall the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776 mural, bringing the Moving Vietnam Wall to Stoneham (1997), being honored as the Chamber Man of the Year (1997), serving multiple terms as Town Moderator, producing local TV Cable shows, organizing & running an outdoor concert series at the Town Hall, and joining the School Council. With careers first at BayBank and then the Salvation Army, Paul retired and then for the next 15+ years loved visiting many local assisted living facilities, connecting with their residents and creating programs to discuss daily topics, memoir writing, and world events.
In his most recent years, Paul found endless joy in watching his four grandchildren grow, walking his favorite dogs, Mercedes, Joey, and Zeus, and keeping his mind sharp with his daily puzzles.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Paul’s Family on Wednesday, December 21st from 1-4pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
