Paul E. Means of Stoneham, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Lahey Clinic & Medical Center in Burlington. He was 72 years of age.
After graduating from Stoneham High in 1963, Paul went to Bridgewater State College and earned a B.A. In History and Political Science. He earned his Master's degree in the Graduate School Of Education at Northeastern University. He went on to become a Stoneham teacher, a Stoneham Selectman, and a State Representative. He served on the Board of Directors of the MBTA, and he was appointed a University Trustee by four Massachusetts Governors. Paul served as Treasury Manager at MassHousing for 12 years where he was responsible for a $4 billion housing portfolio.
Paul enjoyed watching sports as well as attempting a few of his own. He golfed as often as he could; locally, as well as on Cape Cod and in Maine. One of his favorite pastimes was skiing because he could share that with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. Music brought joy to Paul whether he was listening or imagining that he was good enough to sing along.
He was passionate about politics, which began when he was class president at Stoneham High and again at Bridgewater. Paul worked on several campaigns both locally and nationally.
Paul always read multiple books simultaneously, and always gave them as gifts to share his love of reading with others.
Paul's greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He loved hosting family gatherings for holidays and could think of many reasons to have a party.
We will all remember and miss Paul's jokes and stories. His smile was infectious and while he often laughed at his own repeated jokes and stories we were getting just as much joy from watching him as he told them.
Paul is the beloved husband of Gayle (Enella) Means. He is the devoted father of Jill Palermo and her husband Christopher and John Means and his wife Leslie. The cherished grandfather of Luke, Cecilia, JD and Josie, Paul is the dear brother of Larry Means and his wife Toni, Michael Means and his wife Carrie, Janice Papalegis and Brendan Means. Paul is the loving son of MaryAlice (McCarthy) Means and the late Eustis Means. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
