Paul Michael Peduto

Paul Michael Peduto, 73, of Stoneham, Massachusetts, died on Sunday May 28, 2023 from complications related to treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he battled with grace and optimism for three years.

Born on October 29, 1949 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Paul J. and Christine Peduto, Paul grew up in Stoughton, where he met the first of his many lifelong friends. He went on to receive his undergrad degree and MBA at Northeastern University, another source of lifelong friendships and the start of his many years of Huskies hockey fandom. The quiet ambition that was a hallmark of Paul’s personality led him through a successful career that he began as a CPA at Peat Marwick and Mitchell before becoming an internal auditor at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston. He left FHLBB to become the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Warren Five Cents Savings Bank, returning to FHLBB in 2003, where Paul was First Vice President, Sales and Business Development until his retirement in 2012.

Paul’s career achievements paled in comparison to the pride and affection he had for his family. He and his wife, Barbara, married in 1977 and spent their 46 years together sharing their love of food, many friends, countless trips into Boston and up to their house in Maine, and, after retirement, travels around the country and the world. Paul was an exceptional role model of hard work, decency, curiosity, and appreciation of life for his two children, and the most loving, supportive papa to his two granddaughters, who brought as much joy to him as he did to them.

Paul lived his life fully and intentionally. He was a voracious reader, a talented pianist, and a true music afficionado. He loved to be outdoors, enjoying snowshoeing and cross-country skiing with Barbara in Maine’s winters and hiking or spending time on the lake during its summers. A true Bostonian, he never tired of the Public Gardens in springtime or the beauty of Comm Ave. at Christmas; and could be heard yelling at the Bruins or the Red Sox for many city blocks. Paul’s quick wit and booming laugh added to any conversation he was part of.

Paul is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Joanna (Neil); his son, Chris (Melissa); his treasured granddaughters, Mia and Hope; his sister, Pam (Tony); and his mother, Christine. He also leaves behind many cousins, three nephews, and countless friends from all parts of his life who will miss him dearly.

The Peduto family wishes to thank Mass General’s wonderful oncology and stem cell transplant team, and the providers and nurses on Lunder 10 and Blake 12 ICU for the exceptional care and respect they showed to Paul.

The family will receive visitors at the Barile Funeral Home (482 Main Street, Stoneham, MA) on Wednesday June 7th from 10am - 12:30pm.  A celebration of life will take place at 11:45am in the Funeral Home.
