Peter C. Coffin

Peter Coffin, age 75 and a lifelong resident of Stoneham, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026 following a lengthy illness.

Peter lived a life defined by quiet strength and unwavering devotion to family. After the passing of his mother in 1989, he became a caregiver to his younger sister, Meredith, who has Down syndrome. Peter regarded this role as the greatest privilege of his life and treasured their time together.

Peter was a graduate of Stoneham High School and held a BA in journalism from Suffolk University. His love for history and family genealogy shaped his view of the world and made him a captivating storyteller. Peter was especially passionate about trains and found profound happiness and peace in train travel, particularly the cherished trips he shared with his father. He also loved spending summers vacationing with family in Wellfleet on the Cape. Peter was the heart of every Thanksgiving, complete with his family’s favorite pies he would make each year.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, John and Iva Coffin. He is survived by his siblings, Douglas, Cheryl, Brenda, Kristin, and Meredith, as well as his brothers-in-law, Blaine, Jeff, and John. He was a loving and proud uncle to Michael, Emily and her husband Patrick, Brittany, Samantha and her husband Oscar, and a great-uncle to Nora and Corey.

Peter’s kindness, quick wit, and gentle spirit touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and remembered always with love.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Service Celebrating Peter's Eternal Life on Friday, May 15th at 11am in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street, (RT 28) STONEHAM.  Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service beginning at 10am.  Parking attendants and elevator are available.  Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
