Phyllis A. Lapham
April 3, 1923 — September 28, 2008
Phyllis A. Lapham of Groton, formerly of Reading, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston. She was 85 years of age.
Born in Malden, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Frank and Debbie Manning. She was the beloved wife of Larry Lapham and devoted mother of Larry Lapham Jr and his wife Sharon, Wayne Lapham, and Dean Lapham. Phyllis was the caring sister of Lois Gray, and the loving aunt of Diane Reeves, Jeffery Gray and Dana Gray.
Phyllis grew up in Malden, graduating from Malden High School in 1942. She married Larry during World War II and they lived on James St. in Malden until 1952 when they moved to Reading.
An engaged mother, Phyllis was an active member in the PTA, a Cub Scout den mother, and an involved participant in many community activities, playing piano at numerous events.
Phyllis worked at the Reading Chronicle and did volunteer work for senior citizens. She also volunteered at the Stone Zoo, reflecting her lifelong love for animals. The many friends and acquaintances she had will remember her ready smile, her optimistic outlook and her willingness to help out. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Graveside Service on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 10:30am at Forest Glen Cemetery, READING on Forest Glen Rd., just off Route 28 (Main St.), directly opposite Forest Street. The cemetery entrance is about 100 yards up the street on the right.
