Richard M. Lucchini

Richard M. Lucchini passed away February 14, 2026, at Benchmark Memory Care in Hanover, Massachusetts.  Rick was 77 years old.

Rick was born March 6, 1948, in Malden, Massachusetts to E. Edward Lucchini and June M. Lucchini of Malden.  The family eventually moved to Reading, Massachusetts in 1956.

Rick attended the Reading school system graduating from Reading Memorial High School in 1966.  He was a member of the 1965 football team that went undefeated in his senior year.  Coach John Hollingsworth and that team were inducted into the RMHS hall of fame for being the most dominant football squad in the school’s history.  Rick was always proud to have been a part of that team.

Upon graduation, Rick attended Northeastern University before he entered military service during the Vietnam war.  After basic training he was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama before being sent to Karlsruhe, Germany, achieving the rank of SP4.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his wife Deborah Hall Shanteler and his brother Robert Lucchini.

He is survived by his daughter, Sheri Assad and his son Craig Lucchini, his siblings John Lucchini and wife Nancy and sister Sandra Lucchini Ahlf.

Rick also has four grandchildren whom he doted on.  He was Grampi to them and was in their life to the fullest: Alexis Lucchini, Ava Assad, Jacob Lucchini, and Isabella Lucchini.  His happiest times were when he was with them.  Rick also had many nieces and nephews that loved him and will miss his presence.

Rick and Deb were together for 30 years, getting married on June 9, 2023.  He was a big part of Deb’s family over the years, and he was loved like a father and grandfather by her sons and their wives: David Shanteler and his wife Stenni and Kevin Shanteler and his wife Kate.  Their children: RJ, Melissa, Isabelle and Cammy, Sydney and Jack will miss having Papa in their lives.

Besides spending time with family, Rick enjoyed working around his house in Woburn where he and his son Craig did all the design and remodeling together, which came out beautifully.  He also enjoyed gardening and growing his own vegetables.

If we had to think of a word that embodied Rick, it would be “Kind."  He was always so kind and will be missed by so many.

His wake will be held on Friday, March 6th from 10am – 1pm at the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street READING.  Parking attendants and elevator are available.
