Richard Joseph Powers, 88, a life-long Stoneham resident, was called by the Lord on Devine Mercy Sunday, April 12, 2026.
“Richie” is the devoted husband of Mary Bonanno Powers and the loving father of Deborah and husband, Frank Annunziata of Stoneham and Michael and wife, Michelle Powers of Atkinson, NH. He is the proud Papa of Frankie and wife Jessica Annunziata, Christina and Tia Annunziata; Nicole, Cassidy and Jacquelaine Powers; and the beaming great-grandfather of Giovanni and Lucia Annunziata. Richie was lovingly welcomed to Heaven by those who predeceased him: his parents, Raymond and Marguerite Powers; his sisters, Marguerite Lane and Phyllis Pearson; his brothers Raymond Jr. and Robert. He is survived by his younger brother Ralph and wife, Gail of Medfield. He leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Richie was a 1956 graduate of Stoneham High School. He was the the Carnival Ball King and also excelled in football as a running back. Even though he was recruited by college scouts, he decided to stay in Stoneham. He worked for the Stoneham Public Works Department for 38 years. He was also in the National Guard for 8 years. In retirement, he spent many hours working at Unicorn Golf Course in Stoneham where he was a jack of all trades; he could repair anything.
Richie and Mary enjoyed many vacations at York Beach, ME. Richie took great pride in maintaining his lawn; it was always pristine. He had many friends, including Frannie Hart, Billy Munson and Paul Kelly. For the past year he resided at Royal Health Meadow View in North Reading, where he had exceptional care. We would like to recognize the wonderful nurses who cared for him -Annette and Justine. Also, Amanda and Joyce, activities coordinators.
A Funeral Mass Celebrating Richard's Eternal Life will be held in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham on Thursday April 16th, 2026 at 10 am. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.
