Richard A. Rizzo, 100, beloved husband of the late Evelyn (Duquet) Rizzo, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Artis in Reading. Born in Revere, he is the son of the late Michael and Lillian Rizzo.
Richard grew up in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School, class of 1936. He served his country during WWII and was a proud veteran of the Army Air Corps. Richard worked for the Boston Post Office and then for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company until his retirement. He has been a resident of Reading since 1950 and an active member at St. Agnes Church. In 1960 he bought land on a lake in Readfield Maine and built a cabin that is still being enjoyed by his children and grandchildren. Richard was an avid gardener, an occasional golfer and enjoyed playing Cribbage and teaching the game to his children and grandchildren. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, and they with him.
Loving father of the late Richard A. Rizzo, Jr., Elaine Williamson and her husband Thomas, Jeffrey Rizzo and his wife Dorothy and the late Janice Haigh. Cherished grandfather of Derek Rizzo, Jamie Bruner, Scott Rizzo, Justin, Andrew and Elyse Williamson, Christopher and Daniel Rizzo and Stephen and Timothy Haigh and great-grandfather of ten. Loving brother of the late Mary Liberatore, Florence Palancio and Gloria DeFeo. Uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with his family at the Doherty-Barile Funeral Home, 11 Linden St., READING on Wednesday, August 22nd from 9am-10:30am. A Funeral Mass celebrating Richard's Eternal Life will be held at St. Agnes Church, following the visitation at 11am. Burial will be held privately.
