Richard Albert Surette, 87, formerly of Reading, Massachusetts passed away on Saturday, August 25thth, 2018 at Mallard Cove Senior Living in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born in Reading, Mass, on August 3, 1931, he was the loving son of the late Bridgett and Anselm Surette. He was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School and a long- time resident of Reading, Massachusetts. After serving in the US Air Force during the Korean War, Richard was employed as a US Postman until retirement. Following retirement, Richard wanted to keep busy and found employment delivering flowers for Johnson's Roses. Both as a postman and as a flower delivery man, Richard thoroughly enjoyed being out and about, meeting and talking with people on his routes. Richard faithfully attended mass at St. Agnes and St. Athanasius.
Richard loved to take his children to Uncle Paul's lake house in the summers. There they created family moments and stories that have been retold over the many years into their adulthood and have been shared with his grandchildren. Richard also loved to play cards with anyone who was willing to sit down to a game. He taught even the youngest of his grandchildren to play his favorite games of hearts and euchre, a memory they will hold in their hearts forever. Richard also enjoyed being the proud dad/papa watching his children and grandchildren compete in various sporting events or perform at school functions.
Richard is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Dolores (Conti) Surette, his dear daughter, Michelle, and three of his loving siblings, Henry Surette, Robert Surette, and Philip Surette. He is survived by four devoted children Karen Farris of North Andover, Rick Surette and his wife Paula of Wilmington, Kevin Surette and his wife Diane of Cincinnati, and Tracy Surette Johnson of Newburyport.
