Rita A. (Greene) Mooney

Rita A. (Greene) Mooney of Wilmington passed away peacefully with family members by her side on Monday, June 15th, 2026. She was 83 years of age.

Born on August 25, 1942, in Reading, Massaschusetts, Rita was the loving daughter of the late Joseph M. Greene and Catherine (Doherty) Greene. Rita was a warm, kind, gentle, loyal, and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend who will be truly missed.

Rita and her devoted husband, Ray, of sixty years, placed family at the very center of every choice they made and every joy they created. Rita lived her life with an adventurous heart and an unwavering appreciation for the beauty of everyday moments. She lived her 83 years with a joy that was both gentle and contagious. She believed deeply in the power of place—how a patch of land, a quiet lake cottage, or a stretch of ocean shoreline could become the backdrop for the memories that bind a family together.

Rita’s life was marked by devotion: to God, to her family, and to the values she held close. She attended Mass faithfully, found comfort in the rosary, and judged no one. Her home was a place where faith was lived, not just spoken—where kindness was practiced, gratitude was taught, and love was abundant.

She leaves behind a family who adored her, learned from her, and will forever be shaped by her example. Her gentle wisdom, her warm presence, and her deep spiritual grounding will continue to guide those who were blessed to know her. Though she has gone home to God, the grace she carried through her life remains a lasting gift to all who loved her.

Rita was the beloved wife of Raymond F. Mooney, Jr. She was the devoted mother of Raymond F. Mooney, III and his wife Lisa, Sharon Pineo and her husband David, and Kara Martyny and her husband Todd. The cherished grandmother of Christopher Mooney and his wife Brittaney, Eric Mooney and his wife Cara, Ryan Mooney and his girlfriend Natasha, Tayla McShane, Kevin McShane and his girlfriend Grace, Dan Mooney and his wife Kristine, Jake Pineo and his wife Kelly, Emily Ferullo and her husband Thomas and Nora Galletta and her husband Enzo, Rita was the doting great grandmother of Cian Mooney, Shea Mooney, Grace Silva and Atlas Mooney. She was the dear sister of Joanne Long, the late Mary Desmond and her surviving husband Terry, and the late Kathleen Nestor and her late husband Larry. She was the dear sister-in-law of Elaine Murphy and her husband Allen, Patricia Sanford and her late husband Ralph, and the late sister-in-law Carolyn Sullivan and her late husband Peter Sullivan. Rita is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Rita’s Family on Thursday, June 25th from 4-7 pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28) STONEHAM. Parking attendants and elevator are available.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28) STONEHAM on Friday, June 26th at 9 am, followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Rita’s Eternal Life in Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham at 10 am. Interment at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
