Rita Ann Lopinsky (Phillion)

Rita (Phillion) Lopinsky of Stoneham, MA passed away at her home on February 25, 2015 at age 52, surrounded by her family after a nine year battle with cancer.

Rita was the devoted mother of Tyler, Tiffany, Trevor and Travis Lopinsky. Born in Somerville, Rita was the beloved daughter of the late Mary (Daly) Phillion and Joseph J. Phillion. She was the sister of Joseph A. Phillion and his wife Marti of Melrose, David Phillion and his wife Lisa of Medford, Ann Marie Phillion of Melrose, Barbara Jean Marullo and her husband Joseph of Wakefield, Stephen Phillion of Virginia, Eileen Phillion of Melrose and her friend Joseph Mazza, Joyce Griffin and her husband Jay of Stoneham, and Ruth Phillion and her fiancée Stephen Cote of Wakefield. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Rita was a graduate of Matignon High School and Boston University. She enjoyed sports and competition and played on three varsity sports teams at Matignon for four years, but her proudest legacy is her children. She was a provider, teacher and very proud mother. She stressed academic accomplishments and competition more than sports with her children.

Rita endured many cancer treatments and trial treatments. Our Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute who worked so tenaciously with Rita on this journey.

A Funeral Mass Celebrating Rita's Eternal Life will be held in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham on Monday March 2, 2015 at 10am. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 2-6pm to be held at the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) Stoneham. Parking attendants and elevator available.
