Robert "Bob" "Papa" Columbus

Robert "Bob" "Papa" Columbus, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, godfather and great-grandfather, passed away on May 3, 2025, in Stoneham, Massachusetts, at the age of 91. Born on August 17, 1933, in Keene, New Hampshire, Bob lived a life rich in love, family, and dedication to his craft.

Bob's career was marked by his commitment to serving others. After two years of architectural studies at Wentworth University, he began as a draftsman at Hoyle Doran and Berry before embarking on a lifelong career as a Building Inspector. Bob worked in Newton and Medford before settling in Stoneham. Throughout his career, he took pride in designing and building handicap ramps, ensuring accessibility for those with disabilities—a testament to his compassion and desire to make a positive impact in the community.

A man deeply devoted to his family, Bob was always available and loved spending time with his grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will remain in their hearts forever. He was especially fond of tending to his garden, where he could often be found in the summer sun, picking fresh mint and rhubarb. His love for carpentry and the meticulous beauty of architecture was evident in the way he designed and built his own family home, a solid foundation that exemplified his values and dedication.

Bob was not only a family man but also an Army Veteran of the Korean War, stationed in Alaska, where he learned the values of discipline and service. These traits followed him throughout his life, shaping him into the funny, intelligent, and easy-going individual he was. He was a deep thinker, always contemplating life's intricacies, yet he approached everything with an infectious sense of humor and warmth.

In addition to the beauty he cultivated in his garden, Bob had a keen interest in the stock market and was an avid day trader, showing his analytical side in the world of finance. He dedicated countless hours at his drawing table, where his passions for carpentry and architecture converged, allowing his creative spirit to thrive.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Peggy (Angelosanto), and their children: Deborah and her husband Michael Jamieson, Robert and his wife Debra, Stephen and his wife Susan, and Donna and her husband Michael Giannino. He leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Stephen, Amanda, Daniella, James, Robert, Madison, and Delaney, as well as one great-granddaughter, Summer Columbus. His legacy also endures through numerous nieces and nephews who admired him greatly.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Anthony and Frances (Amoroso) Columbus, and his siblings, Josephine Adams, James Columbus, and Teresa Valle.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Bob's Family on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 3 to 8pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main Street (RT 28)  STONEHAM.  Parking attendants and elevator are available.
