Robert E. Moreira of Stoneham passed away peacefully to be reunited with his bride on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at his home. He was 93 years of age. Stoneham has lost a truly great man.
Bob was born in East Cambridge and grew up in Stoneham. He was a devout Catholic and lifetime parishioner of Saint Patrick Church. Bob excelled at every sport he played, landing him the opportunity to try out for the Red Sox. He loved sports throughout his life, whether he was crouched behind a batter, umpiring little league, sitting in the bleachers at a grandchild's game or water skiing well into his 60s. His favorite pastime was playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob was a legendary hard worker, personifying the phrase "when you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life." He was a marine veteran, a well-respected Stoneham Police officer and detective for 38 years. He was also a constable, for which he received a Certificate of Appreciation for 57 years of service to the Town of Stoneham. His retirement job was at Stoneham Ford where he worked for another 25 years. He finally stopped working at age 89.
Always a gentleman, Bob had high standards and lived his values. He was a genuinely kind and loving man who provided security, commitment, strength, warmth and humor to friends and family alike, making him a role model for his children and grandchildren.
Bob is the beloved husband for 52 years of the late Elizabeth Hackett (Pike) "Betsy" Moreira. He is the devoted father of Judith Fletcher and her husband Tom, Karen Moreira, Steven Moreira and his wife Audrey, Joanne Roberts and her husband Mike and Tracy Moreira. The adored stepfather of Diane Harding and her husband Robert, Colleen Morrissey and Suebeth Brown and her husband Calvin, Bob is the cherished grandfather of 25, great grandfather of 26 and great great grandfather of 30. He is the dear brother of Jacqueline Pando, Louise Tarr and the late Donald Moreira. Bob is the loving son of the late Edmund and Mary (Rego) Moreira and he is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
A Funeral Mass Celebrating Bob's Eternal Life will be held on Saturday, January 9th at 10am in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Bob's Family on Saturday from 8am – 9:30am in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Parking attendants and an elevator are available.
Per MA regulations, face coverings must be worn while at the Funeral Home and not more than 25% capacity will be allowed in the Funeral Home at one time
Burial will take place at Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham where Bob will be reunited with his Betsy.
