Robert Stoddard Webber of Stoneham passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the age of seventy-two.
Born on March 1, 1951 in Winchester, Rob was the loving son of the late Clarence Webber and Ruth (Bowser) Webber. Rob was a warm, kind and gentle son, brother, husband, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.
Rob was the beloved husband of Jane (Miller) Webber. He was the dear brother of Scott P. Webber and his wife Carren. Rob was also the devoted uncle of Lauren Webber and her brother Charles Webber and his wife Jamie.
Rob was a lifelong learner, a fascinating conversationalist, and a lover of life and people. He attended Stoneham High School, and graduated from University of Massachusetts Boston (BA in economics) and Babson College (MBA in finance). Later in life, he attended night school sessions at Massachusetts College of Law, and had nearly completed a JD at the time of his death.
Rob’s work life began at Prudential Insurance, then Boston Edison. He completed his working career at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts where he also was an enthusiastic participant in the company’s many service projects.
Outside of work, Rob’s life was dedicated to community service and philanthropy, particularly mentoring disabled people of all ages. He worked with Resource Partnership to create more career opportunities for disabled people; he also mentored disabled people throughout his own career, particularly at BCBS of Massachusetts. The needs of hungry children moved his compassionate soul, and he supported a broad range of charities. In addition, he loved his little pug dogs, and supported a number of charities helping abused animals.
Rob volunteered at Boston Museum of Science and advised the MBTA on several critical improvements to facilitate access for disabled passengers. Jane and Rob spent many happy hours reading all the Harry Potter books aloud to each other. Rob loved old printing presses, and thoroughly enjoyed his Stoneham High School reunions, visits to the Topsfield Fair, and trips to Shapleigh, Maine, where his father grew up.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Rob’s family on Friday, December 1st from 4-7pm in the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street, READING. Parking attendants and an elevator are available.
