Robert E. Stuart, age 77, passed away suddenly at his home in Reading on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.  He was the beloved husband and best friend of Nancy (Lyman) Stuart, with whom he had shared almost 50 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Malden, MA on September 8, 1944, he was the son of the late Albert E. and Rose Marie (Tucker) Stuart.  He was a beloved brother to the late Albert Charles Stuart of Everett, MA, and the late Carol Stuart of Malden, MA.

Bob proudly served in the United States Navy as an air traffic controller during the Vietnam War and enjoyed telling stories about his naval adventures.  He was very patriotic and always looked back at his naval career fondly.  In 1983, Bob went on to be the owner and operator of the thriving Chem-Dry on the North Shore with Nancy, growing it to three franchises.

Bob made friends everywhere he went.  He was incredibly friendly and always made everyone laugh with his jokes and observations. As a resident of Reading for the last six decades, Bob enjoyed fattening up the squirrel and bird population in his backyard.  Even the animals counted him as a friend and looked forward to his generous helpings of peanuts.  Bob and Nancy also spent their summers in York, ME where the other residents enjoyed his company at Camp Eaton and the York VFW.  Bob was also a traveler, taking trips to Africa, the Caribbean, Alaska, Israel, and more, as well as yearly trips to visit his children who lived out of state.

Bob was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Church in North Reading, MA, where he and his wife have many cherished friends.  He was also an avid fisherman, often organizing fishing trips with his employees and grandsons.  Bob also collected memorabilia of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots and passed on his love of the teams to his grandkids, who enjoyed watching games with him.

Along with his loving wife, Bob is survived by his children, Gerrie and her husband Stephen Quick of Chesapeake, VA, and their children Stephen V, Brianna, Thomas, Connor, Emily, Liberty, Lily, Seth, and granddaughter, Olivia; Robert Stuart, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Lexington, KY, and their children Margo, Irelyn and Dawson; Laura Courtney of Beverly, MA, and her children Josh Courtney and his wife, Kalee of Beverly, MA, and Jeff Courtney and his partner, Kristina Vetree of Haverhill, MA; and Scott and Michelle Jenkins of Billerica, MA and their children, Elizabeth, Nicholas, and Grace. Bob also leaves behind beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Arrangements:  Friends and family are invited to join us for a celebration of Bob's life at Trinity Evangelical Church, 105 Haverhill St., North Reading, MA on September 24, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.  The family would love it if you shared memories and pictures at the service.
