Robert Allan Thistle of Plaistow, New Hampshire and Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away Saturday September 22, 2012, at the age of 84, at The Bedford VA Hospital, surrounded by his immediate family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy (Parker) Thistle, who he was married to for 65 years. Robert was the devoted father of Carol Thistle of Reading, Donna Thistle and her husband David Small of West Newbury, Elaine Keltner and her husband Ronald of Ormond Beach, Florida and Jean Thistle-Bond and her husband Steven of Bolton. He was the cherished grandfather of Robert, Daniel and Abigail.
Robert was born in Wakefield and a long-time resident of Reading. During WW II, he served on the U.S.S. Leyte. He retired as a manager of Career Leadership with Prudential Insurance. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Robert touched the lives of everyone he met. His love of life, strength of character, compassionate heart and sense of humor will be sorely missed by family and friends.
A Funeral Service celebrating Robert's Eternal Life will be held on Friday at 11am in the Chapel of the Doherty - Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. READING. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Thursday from 4-8pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment Wood End Cemetery, Reading.
