Ruth M. (McGowan) Purington Stoneham passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008, at Winchester Hospital. She was 80 years of age.
Born in Woburn, Ruth was the daughter of late Mary (MacPherson) McGowan and Francis McGowan. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed by all. Ruth's family was first and foremost in her life. Her love for them was unparallel.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Newell W. Purington and Alfred H. Shepherd. She was the devoted mother of Kenneth Purington and his wife Kristina of Reading, Allan Purington and his wife Kathleen of Stoneham, Anne Bardelli and her husband David of Bradford and the late Mary and Robert Purington. Ruth was the cherished grandmother of Jeremy, Jessica, Alyssa, Andrew, Krissta and Tessa. She was the loving great grandmother of Halie and Joseph. She was the dear sister of Donald McGowan, Frances Altavesta, Barbara McManus, all of Woburn, Isabelle Nix of FL. Sister in law of Robert Purington of Woburn. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Thursday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Ruth's life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
